Born in 1933 in Lyallpur, India. Nayar and his family shifted to New Delhi during the partition where he completed his graduation from St. Stephen's College in 1952. Thereafter, he finished his diploma in fine arts from the National College of Fine Art in 1957 and showcased his works at the national exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi. Initially a painter, over the course of time Nayar dwelled into other mediums such as sculpture, installation, archival digital print and photography. His initial works portray abstract origins with ritual undertones that gradually evolved into iconic figures of elongated human form, mostly women, who resided between the space amidst the earth and the skies. Nayar's art urges the viewer to dwell into the concerns of the human form and the environment, provoking thoughts regarding the relationship that they share. In 1981 he received the national award from the Lalit Kala Akademi for his sculpture titled: Mankind-2110. He has also held several solo shows of his paintings, sculptures and installations in India and participated in several group and international exhibitions. Along with this Nayar has participated in numerous workshops and art camps nationally and internationally, his works are an esteemed part of several public and private collections globally.
