Kabir, the mystic weaver saint from north India said that just the way a musk dear runs madly in the shadow of the forest trying to find the fragrance “Kasturi” which is inherent in himself. He knows not where that fragrance comes from, and is possessed all his life trying to find it all over the forest; Kabir says in this verse that we too are lost in this forest of temptations, this world, living a reckless life like a musk deer, in all his beauty is not able to find that supreme consciousness which is omnipresent, and also residing in us.I have tried to interpret this verse visually through the ‘hamsa” or that free spirit residing in us, that fragrance of moksha which persuades us to constantly push forward, is actually residing within us.
